5 Easy Ways to Overcome Procrastination
The decision to overcome procrastination is a big one, and probably resulted from too many stressful situations when you just barely finished a project or task in time. To overcome procrastination, you must commit to understanding your procrastination.
To overcome procrastination, you will need to tailor a plan that fits with the specific reason for your procrastination. You can overcome procrastination with a little understand and self reflection, and with a sound plan.
Procrastination can arise from several different circumstances. Do you often take on more than you can reasonably handle and feel overwhelmed? Do you struggle to plan time to finish tasks accordingly? Do you lack organization and find you must scramble because you overlooked pieces or parts of the task?
These are all situations you can address and conquer in your quest to overcome procrastination.
1. Overcome Procrastination - buy a calendar, planner, or date book. Learn to use your calendar. Write down the tasks you must complete in your calendar first. This will let you know what your end goals are. Also write down other important events or plans you have.
You must learn to work your tasks and work into the rest of your life if you are going to be able to complete things on time. Once you have written in deadlines and events you must attend, go back and being to schedule blocks of time in your day to work on projects.
Also, you will know how hard you will have to walk and how fast you will have to accomplish tasks.
2. Overcome Procrastination - buy a notepad and make a list each day of the most important things you must do. Do not make this list long or overly exhaustive, because it would then overwhelm you and hinder your ability to accomplish anything.
Refer to the list throughout the day and mark things off as you are going to give you a tangible record of the success you are making.
3. Overcome Procrastination - set limits for yourself! Do not take on more than you can feasibly handle. Once you have a calendar that is up to date and accurate, you can gauge what kind of free time you will have available for additional commitments.
Make sure you do not take on more than your calendar says you have time for. This will decrease overwhelming situations and leave you free to work at a reasonable pace on the projects you must complete.
4. Overcome Procrastination - do not allow yourself to put things off when you have scheduled in time for work. Use discipline to make yourself hold to your calendar and list even when you do not feel like it.
Feelings will come and go, and not every day will feel productive and work oriented. If you can make the decision to stick to your calendar even when you feel like playing or putting things off, you will find it gets much easier to practice discipline.
5. Schedule free time to do exactly what you want to do at that moment. You do not have to drive yourself every day all the time to overcome procrastination. Give yourself adequate free time and you will find you can complete your work with much less resentment and you may just overcome procrastination.
